In the 1930s, America grappled with the shadows of the Great Depression, its struggles compounded by devastating dust storms that decimated the mid-West’s ecology and agriculture. Farms like the Coopers teetered on the edge of uncertainty. Sheltered between two high ranges, whilst Hollow Creek escaped the worst effects, it was not immune to the widespread economic despair gripping the nation.

The arrival of the Circus of Wonders to this small farming community provides a welcome respite from the difficulties of everyday life. However, not everyone shares this sentiment. Some individuals express their concerns, harbouring suspicion towards the troupe that has set up camp on the ridge.
