Renowned for its jagged coastline and treacherous storms, Maine has claimed nearly a thousand fishing vessels, warships, and passenger boats. Known locally as All Souls, this ship graveyard lies ten miles beyond Whaleback Lighthouse. Over fifty ghostly wrecks linger on the surface, while countless more remain entombed beneath the waves
Some vessels met their end in these icy waters, while others were towed to their final resting place. The Salacia, abandoned in open water, serves as a solemn headstone for the Lowenhertz, which lies thirty feet below, swallowed by the seabed. Once a proud vessel, it now rests in eternal slumber—a haunting testament to the ocean’s unyielding grip.
